Application for NorthStar Visiting Faculty

If you are interested in participating in the NorthStar Visiting Scholars Academy, please complete the following items and send to Josefina Li, Northstar Visiting Scholars Academy Coordinator:

• A completed Visiting Scholar Information/Application form.
• A copy of your passport information page with your photograph (Include passport information page for every dependent child that will accompany you as well)
• Your Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• Your plan of visit (An essay explaining the purpose of your visit, your professional goals, lectures to give, classes to observe)
• Financial affidavit Form, include financial support from your university or government if applies. The financial affidavit must show that the student has enough funding to cover the cost of study. The financial affidavit must include the required physical (ink) signatures and supporting line-by-line bank statements (sample bank statement) with affirmation of support or official letters.
• A personal bank statement (If you are funded by your university or government, then the equivalent of $3,500 USD per semester, $10,000 USD per year in CNY is sufficient to cover food, medical insurance, super fee, and other personal expenses. )
  • $8,500 USD additional financial certification is required for the first dependent child and $3,500 USD for each dependent thereafter if your dependents will accompany you.
    – Bank statements must be printed on bank letterhead and display the bank’s full name and address; must be signed or stamped by the financial institution; must be no more than three months old; must include type of currency, and when possible, the currency conversion; must show an account balance in the amount of funding that you have indicated; must include the type of account (e.g. savings, checking, time deposit); must be less than 2 pages long.
    – Funding must be liquid assets that are immediately accessible. Credit cards, life insurance, crypto-currencies, retirement and/or pension funds are NOT accepted.
• A completed and signed Visiting Scholar General Policies Agreement
• Documentation of English-language proficiency
• Personal Video Interview (will be scheduled after receiving all other application materials)

If your application is approved, we will issue an offer letter of program details and acknowledgement to you. If you accept the offer by signing the acknowledgement, we will issue a DS2019 form, which you will use to apply for a J visa.
