During your time on OPT, you will use the SEVP Portal to report changes to your address and, if applicable, your employment information to both the IPC and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program.
Directions for using the SEVP Portal
See the Study in the States Website for all of the information you need to know about utilizing the SEVP Portal. You can log in to the SEVP Portal here.
The SEVP Portal is only for students on post-completion or STEM OPT.
Logging into the SEVP Portal
- Once your OPT is approved, you should receive an email from the Student Exchange and Visitor Program (SEVP). If you do not receive an email from SEVP, contact international@bemidjistate.edu
- You must create your SEVP Portal account within 14 days of receiving this email. Otherwise, your account will be locked.
- To ensure security, you are required to make a new password every 90 days.
- If your account gets locked, you can contact international@bemidjistate.edu to request that it be unlocked.

What are the reporting requirements while on Post-completion OPT?
You should report the following changes on the SEVP Portal within 10 days of the change occurring:
- Physical/home address or mailing address change
- Legal name change
- New employment, change in employment, or termination of employment
What are the reporting requirements while on STEM Extension OPT?
If you are on your STEM Extension OPT, you should report the following change on the SEVP Portal within 10 days of the change occurring:
- Physical/home address or mailing address change
- Legal name change
A new Form I-983 is required if there are any material changes to your STEM OPT employment.A list of material changes and a link to the Form I-983 can be found on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement website.
If required by a material change in your employment, you can submit an updated Form I-983 to the IPC at international@bemidjistate.edu
