BSU Foundation Scholarships (One Common application)
Beverly and Kenneth Henriques Scholarship
Amount: Up to $300
Deadline: Feb. 15 each year
Criteria: To support foreign studies by Minnesota residents who are students at BSU, or to support study at BSU by students who are citizens of a foreign country. To be eligible, students must be attending BSU in good academic standing. Preference shall be given to students who attended Lincoln School, Bemidji, Minnesota. Awards shall be made to students who, in the opinion of the awarding authority , may benefit greatest from the experience of foreign study, or in the case of foreign nationals who might benefit most from study at BSU.
Harry F. Bangsberg Memorial Scholarship
Amount: Up to $800
Deadline: Feb. 15 each year
Criteria: Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Grad student participating in an Education Abroad Program. Preference to student with emphasis in Asian Studies who meets all the other award criteria, but if no such student applies, the award shall then be made available to students who participate in an education abroad experience and who meet other established criteria, even if they are not focused on Asian studies. Minimum GPA of 2.5
Marshall China Studies Scholarship
Amount: Up to $600
Deadline: Feb. 15 each year
Criteria: Study of China and Chinese people.
Richard and Evelyn Krummel Memorial Scholarship
Amount: Up to $1000
Deadline: Feb. 15 each year
Criteria: Participant in the Education Abroad Program and studying in a non-English speaking country. Successfully completed one course in the Global Perspective area of the liberal arts requirement. A sophomore, junior, or senior who meets all the requirements of the Education Abroad Program.
Robert and Jacqueline Decker Scholarship
Amount: Up to $1000
Deadline: Feb. 15 each year
Criteria: Junior, Senior with 3.0 GPA participating in EuroSpring Program.
External Scholarships
The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. Criteria: Applicants must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of their study abroad program or internship. Amount: Up to $5000
Hagan Scholarship Foundation
Description: Eligible recipients will have the opportunity to visit and explore another country, experience its culture, and earn college credits. The award amount will pay all program costs including tuition, fees, room and board, round trip airfare and incidental expenses, up to $8,000.

Fulbright Student Program
In partnership with more than 140 countries worldwide, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers unparalleled opportunities in all academic disciplines to passionate and accomplished graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals from all backgrounds. Program participants pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English abroad.
During their grants, Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think. Through engagement in the community, individuals will interact with their hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom, thereby promoting mutual understanding.

Please encourage your students to apply.Deadline: February 9, 2024Description: Intended to expand global opportunities for students from all backgrounds who are pursuing post-secondary degrees. This is a paid internship with the opportunity to work in U.S. embassies and consulates throughout the world, as well as in various bureaus located in Washington, D.C. and at Department offices around the United States. This program is designed to provide substantive learning experiences in a foreign affairs environment.Amount: Covers transportation to and from DC, or wherever student is placed, housing and GS-4 grade stipend.
Critical Language Scholarship
Description: The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program partners with universities and nonprofits around the globe to provide cohorts of U.S. students an opportunity to study the language and culture in a country/location where the target language is commonly spoken.
The LUCE Scholars Program
Description: the LUCE Scholars Program is a competitive leadership development fellowship that provides emerging leaders with immersive professional experiences in Asia. In partnership with The Asia Foundation, which has offices in each of the countries and regions where we place our Scholars, we aim to strengthen relationships across borders by offering Scholars opportunities to deepen their understanding of Asia’s countries, cultures, and people.
Voyager Scholarship

Through a transformational combination of barrier-reducing financial aid, an immersive work-travel experience, and a robust network of leaders and mentors, the Voyager Scholarship is designed to inspire, empower, and connect the next generation of leaders and equip them with the tools and resources they need to launch their careers in public service.
Schwarzman Scholars
Description: A one-year, fully-funded master’s program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, designed to build a global community of future leaders who will serve to deepen understanding between China and the rest of the world.
MEXT Scholarship by The Japan Ministry of Education
Deadline: February 12, 2024Description: The MEXT scholarships are for high school seniors, recent graduates, graduate or post-graduate students who intend to earn a degree from a Japanese university or study Japanese language and culture at a university in Japan for one year.Amount: Offers round-trip airfare, a monthly stipend of 117,000 yen, and waived tuition for study in Japan.Toshizo Watanabe Study Abroad Scholarship Program
