Common student questions
What is BSU College in the High School?
BSU College in the High School is a concurrent enrollment program in which students take BSU classes in their own high school classrooms. Students receive Bemidji State University credit while concurrently fulfilling their high school graduation requirements. Most of the courses offered through College in the High School are part of the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum, which means the courses are likely to transfer into the liberal education or general education requirements of colleges and universities that are part of the Minnesota State system.
Who teaches the classes?
Classes are taught by qualifying high school instructors under the mentorship of a BSU faculty member. High school instructors must have a Master’s degree in the subject area or a Master’s degree and 18 graduate credits in the subject area to meet HLC and academic department criteria. Instructors receive additional training in the university curriculum, and have access to BSU faculty library and online course resources.
Are classes the same as those offered on campus?
Yes! Classes adhere to the same standards and use the same instructional methods as courses offered at BSU. The only difference is they are offered in the high school classroom instead of on the Bemidji State University campus.
As a BSU College in the High School student, you have access to numerous academic resources. Some are available online and some would require travel to the BSU campus.
Students must meet all academic standards and course requirements as established by the University and sponsoring academic department. High school students enrolled in the program are subject to the same student conduct and academic integrity policy standards as are other Bemidji State University students.
How much does it cost?
Courses are free to students! Tuition, text books and instructional costs are paid by the partnering high school – not the students – representing a significant savings for students and their families.
