Accessibility Services
Students with documented disabilities can coordinate a variety of services with the confidential assistance of the Accessibility Services Office. Service options include:
- Note taking
- Adaptive testing services
- Scribes
- Interpreters
- Mentoring services
- Proctored testing
When appropriate, services are coordinated with outside agencies such as the Minnesota State Services for the Blind and Hearing Impaired and the Department of Rehabilitation Services. Go to Accessibility Services.
Advising Center
Get the help you need in making your transition to Bemidji State University. The Advising Center provides advising services to help you choose a major, determine credits needed to fulfill core curriculum requirements and a range of other issues. Go to the Advising Center web site. For after-hours support, please seek the online help available from the Distance Minnesota Support Center.
Basic Needs Resources
BSU can help connect students and their families with local and regional support mechanisms for meeting the basic needs of life. Please review the Basic Needs Resources web page and contact the BSU Student Life and Success office with any questions.
The University Bookstore
You can order required textbooks for distance learning courses at the Online Bookstore. Use the customized textbook list tool to learn what book and materials you will need for your courses. Then order your textbooks online, by e-mail or by phone. You must be registered for at least one credit to be able to charge books and materials to your student account. You will need your StarID to charge to your student account, and be sure to select Bemidji State as your active account when charging. Go to the Online Bookstore. Also, please take note of the Bookstore hours and contact information.
Career Advancement
BSU Career Advancement offers resources that students can access 24/7.
Handshake is available for internship and job search and is the #1 platform in the nation for internships. Please encourage your students to access their account and update their profile to use this valuable service. Students can drop in for our “Resume on the Run” service where no appointment is necessary.
If students have never completed a professional interview and wish to practice in the privacy of their own space, we offer Interview Prep as a resource. Students can create an account and record themselves answering a variety of interview questions that they can choose or use a pre-selected list of common interview questions.
If a student would like to review their Interview Prep answers with a one of our team or get assistance with career concerns, students can schedule a Coaching Appointment via Handshake.
Another resource that is available to students to maximize their LinkedIn profile is LinkedIn Learning, which students can access through their MyBSU. LinkedIn Learning has a huge library of career resources for students that they can access 24/7.

D2L Brightspace
D2L Brightspace is your online learning software, accessed through your MyBSU account, or directly by following this link: Access D2L Brightspace here. Login with your StarID and password.
If you are new to using D2L Brightspace, we recommend taking the BSU Student Orientation to D2L. In fact, some courses require you to take this orientation before you can begin work in the class. It’s fun and easy to get through, so check it out! You should see the orientation in your list of courses in D2L. If you do not see it, click on the Self Registration link on the D2L Homepage and follow the prompts to register.

A.C. Clark Library

Student Consumer Complaint Process
Pursuant to the United States Department of Education’s Program Integrity Rule, institutions providing online education are required to provide all prospective and current students contact information of the state agency or agencies that handle complaints against postsecondary education institutions offering distance learning within that state.
We encourage you to seek resolution to any concerns by discussing them informally with a staff member at the University. If a complaint cannot be handled informally, BSU students are encouraged to use our University’s Student Complaint and Grievance process, outlined in the BSU Student Complaint Processes.
If a complaint cannot be resolved at the University level, you may contact the Minnesota Office of Higher Education if you are a distance education student that resides out of state and in an NC-SARA state. Otherwise, you may contact your local state agency for further information.

Test Proctoring
On-campus proctoring is available in the Student Success Center – Suite 202 Decker Hall on the BSU campus. Please call 218-755-2038 to schedule your proctored tests, or email BSUProctor@bemidjistate.edu. You may also submit a request to schedule an exam by filling out the online request form.
Off-site proctored testing may be administered by external proctors who have been approved by Extended Learning. Many of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities provide testing services. Find a testing center at a campus near you.
Your chosen test proctor’s work address and work email address will be required. Test materials will not be mailed to home addresses. You are responsible for arranging for your own test proctor when needed. Use this form to identify your chosen proctor with Extended Learning, so we can send test materials to them.
Electronic (remote) proctoring may be available for your class, for a fee. Consult with your professor to see whether they allow remote/electronic proctoring for their class.
Transfer Students
Most distance learning students will need to transfer credits to BSU to begin their program. Find resources about application procedures, credit transfer policy and curriculum requirements at Transfer Admissions. Also, review the Transfer Equivalencies and Course Substitutions guide here.

Tutoring
Get help when you need it. BSU offers online tutoring services via Tutor.com. Tutoring services cover all major and minor subject areas including math, writing, accounting, economics, biology, languages, and nursing. All students will receive 15 hours of tutoring at no cost. Additional time may be purchased directly through Tutor.com.
To access Tutor.com:
- Log in to MyBSU, then click D2L Brightspace.
- On the right side HelpLinks menu under Academic Support, click the Tutor.com icon.
- Your MyBSU login will allow you access to Tutor.com, and you’ll be able to manage your tutoring account in their system.

Math Help Center
The BSU Math Help Center is located in the A.C. Clark Library on the BSU campus. They offer zoom-based tutoring for students in online math classes. Check out the Math Help Center page here.
Writing Resource Center
Hone your writing skills with assistance from the Writing Resource Center. Find resources on how to complete writing assignments, write an effective cover letter or compile a winning resume.
Tutors are available to assist with all kinds of writing questions. Get tips and ideas to get started with a writing assignment. Or clarify grammar rules and find instructions on how to site resources in a paper. Submit your questions online or in-person.
