SOWK 4970 Internship (6-12 credits)

The Social Work Internship is a senior signature course designed to provide students with an immersive, hands-on experience in a public or private social service organization. Over the course of 400 hours, students will integrate and apply their social work knowledge, values, and skills in a professional setting, fostering both cognitive and affective development. This course emphasizes the synthesis of theoretical learning and practical application. Through guided supervision and participation in integrative seminars, students will engage in critical reflection on their experiences, enhance their professional competencies, and contribute to the social service community. This opportunity not only solidifies students' understanding of social work practices but also prepares them for future roles in the field. Graded Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory only. Prerequisite(s): Completion of all courses in the major with a 2.50 GPA in the major and a C or better in all courses with a social work prefix (SOWK).
