COMM 3130 Family Communication (3 credits)
This course examines how communication functions and societal structures develop, maintain, enrich, or challenge family relationships. Topics covered include the meaning of narratives and stories, family roles and rules, decision-making, and conflict resolution in families; exploration of family types, policy making, and the impact of race and power on family functioning and access; and examining how communication changes throughout the family life cycle. Overall, this course is designed to develop understanding of, and ability to, analyze communication within families through theory, research, societal constraints, and experiential application of concepts.
