The Advising Center is here to help guide you through your first semester and make sure you learn everything you need to know to have a safe, productive and successful BSU experience.

We understand the importance of finding your community on campus. Students who develop friendships, join clubs and organizations and take satisfying courses are those most likely to succeed and earn a degree. To facilitate these bonds, BSU has developed a series of programs that help students make those first connections with campus:

New Student Checklist

Use this checklist to ensure you get off to a good start at BSU.

  • Register for courses. All new students are expected to attend a New Student Registration (NSR) program to complete their first semester course registration. We understand that traveling to BSU to attend one of our NSR programs may not be feasible. Students living 6+ hours away, and online students, have the option to sign up for an independent registration session via phone or Zoom.
  • Apply for financial aid. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Secure housing through your e-Services account.
  • Purchase textbooks. The BSU Bookstore is located in the lower Hobson Union. You may stop by the bookstore or reserve books online. Ask the bookstore about the option to rent your textbooks. There are also several other purchasing options available off-campus.
  • Send final transcripts. Have your final high school or transfer college transcripts sent to BSU prior to the start of classes.
  • Immunization form. If you haven’t done so already, complete your Immunization form online.
  • Check important dates and deadlines. Go to student billing. For example, your registration may be canceled due to non-payment. It’s best to know your due dates!
  • Log-in to MyBSU. Access MyBSU via the top corner of the BSU homepage. Once logged in, you can explore your BSU email, e-Services, D2L and more.
  • Complete the Sexual Violence Prevention Training (SVPT). This training is accessible via D2L and should be completed during your first semester.
