Vision Benefits
The Blue Cross Vision plan, partnered with Davis Vision, is optional and designed to supplement your family’s medical coverage.
The Blue Cross Vision plan is available to benefits-eligible employees, whether you’re enrolled in the state’s MN Advantage Health Plan or are covered elsewhere.
MN Advantage Health Plan members may select the Blue Cross Vision plan no matter which plan administrator you are enrolled in for your medical coverage including, BlueCross BlueShield, HealthPartners and PreferredOne.
While our medical plan covers your eye exam, the Blue Cross Vision plan helps cover the costs of eyeglasses or contact lenses and offers discounts on LASIK and more. The vision plan uses the Davis Vision network of retailers and independent provider offices.

The State of Minnesota offers life and disability insurance programs benefits to eligible employees and their eligible family members.
Life Insurance

Disability Insurance
Short-term disability insurance provides you with income when a non-work related injury, illness or pregnancy results in your total disability. Benefits will begin on the first day of a disability due to an accident or on the eighth day of a disability due to illness or pregnancy. Benefits will not be paid for any day you are not under the care of a physician. Benefits will not continue for more than 180 days for any one period of total disability. Long-term disability (LTD) insurance provides you with income when an injury or illness results in your disability beyond 180 days. Benefits will begin on the 181st day of a total disability due to an injury, illness or pregnancy and are payable until your normal retirement age, as stated in the 1983 Social Security amendment, which is determined by your date of birth.

Pre-Tax Benefits
Pre-tax benefits, also known as Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs), allow an employee to pay for certain expenses with money that is deducted from pay before it is taxed. This allows a substantial tax savings by paying your health and dental plan premiums, eligible dependent care, medical, dental and transportation expenses with pre-tax dollars. BRi is the administrator for the state’s pre-tax benefits.
- Health and Dental Premium Expense Account (HDPA): As an employee on payroll, the Health and Dental Premium Account (HDPA) allows you to pay your share of MN Advantage Health Plan and State Dental Plan or State of Minnesota HealthPartners Dental Plan premiums for yourself and your qualified dependents with pre-tax dollars.
- Dependent Care Expense Account (DCEA): This allows the employee to pay for certain dependent care expenses, such as child care, with pre-tax dollars.
- Medical/Dental Expense Account (MDEA): This allows the employee to pay for certain unreimbursed medical and dental expenses with pre-tax dollars.
- Transit Expense Account (TEA): The plan allows the employee to pay for qualified transportation expenses with money that is sheltered pre-tax.
- Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA): The Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) allows an employee to be reimbursed for medical, dental and vision expenses that are not paid by insurance.
