TAD Students Return to Annual Tradeshow in Las Vegas

In October 2021 Design Guild went on a trip to Las Vegas to return to ExhibitorLIVE, the tradeshow for tradeshows and get the Vegas experience. To start their journey, TAD students drove from Bemidji to catch their flight in Minneapolis to their final destination. Upon arrival at the hotel Excalibur, TAD students were able to walk around and explore the Vegas strip before putting their business pants on for Exhibitor.

ExhibitorLIVE

Students on a planeExhibitorLIVE is the annual tradeshow of all tradeshows. Typically, it happens in the spring but due to COVID-19 reasons, it was moved to the fall this year after several cancellations. The show is four days long and is held in the Mandalay Bay convention center. It hosts exhibits to various exhibit houses, graphic design, frame and shipping companies everything that goes into creating an exhibit is there. Bemidji State University also had our own booth area and had students handing out pamphlets to attendees outside of the convention center. In the two days Design Guild members attended they got a chance to explore the show floor and network with different companies about job and internship opportunities.

Fremont Street Halloween Experience

Design Guild members all dressed in their costumes met up on Halloween night to check out the infamous Las Vegas Fremont Street Experience, the most famous strip in Vegas. The coolest aspect of the street is the digital LED screen ceiling that runs along the length of the old original Fremont Street. Every hour on the hour the screen features a famous artist by playing their music and displaying their music videos on the screen! There are four stages along the strip for different live bands to play at. The best entertainment feature of Fremont Street is the Slotzilla zipline that runs along the top of the strip. Professors Sachel Josefson, Mitch Blessing and Eric Carlson were brave enough to try it.

Museum of Dream Space is a Selfie-taker’s Paradise

Professors spelling out TADAnother one of the Design Guild’s adventures in Las Vegas was to the Museum of Dream Space, a selfie museum located in the Grand Palazzo shops near the Venetian hotel on the Vegas strip. The museum is the first museum exhibiting digital art. They have several rooms with projections of artwork on the walls, in other rooms there are mirrors and colorful lights which make for a great photo op. TAD students and faculty had fun replicating funny poses and exploring what the museum’s unique rooms had to offer.

Students holding awardsOn the last day of the trip Design Guild had a group dinner at Gilley’s Saloon to commemorate the Vegas experience and a successful trip. After dinner they got the chance to see the magnificent Cirque du Soleil of Mystère in Treasure Island Hotel & Casino concluding their time in Las Vegas.
