Sherry Lawdermilt has been named chief information officer for both Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College.

Lawdermilt comes to Bemidji from the University of North Dakota, where she most recently served as director of applications and integration support. In that role, she led and coordinated information technology support efforts for that school’s 14,000 students and 3,000 employees, including server and systems administration, web development and telecommunications. She oversaw project management, server and system administration, software system evaluation and integrations, website management and application development, and telecommunications, among other responsibilities. She also oversaw design and upgrades for residence hall networking.

She also worked as director of administrative services technology and director of technology for finance and operations at North Dakota, supporting IT needs in finance & operations, student affairs, public affairs, the Office of the President and on-campus resident students.

Before joining the University of North Dakota, she served in a variety of roles with the City of Grand Forks, first as an account clerk and later as a system support clerk, IT specialist and senior programmer analyst. She also spent seven years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a requisitions chief, fiscal non-commissioned officer and supply clerk with the Marine Wing Communication Squadron in Japan, the 2nd Radio Battalion at Camp Lejune, North Carolina, and the Marine Air Control Squadron in Yuma, Arizona.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to join Bemidji Statue University and Northwest Technical College,” she said. “After my service in the Marine Corps ended, I started my pursuit of higher education in the Minnesota State colleges and universities system, so coming to BSU and NTC feels like I’m coming full circle. The campus community was very welcoming during my campus tours and I look forward to working with the students, faculty, and staff.”

Lawdermilt has an associate of applied science degree in computer programming from Minnesota State Community & Technical College, and bachelor of science degrees in management and computer information systems and a master’s degree in business administration, with a management information systems concentration, from Park University. She expects to complete a doctorate in higher education leadership from the University of North Dakota later this year.

Lawdermilt’s duties as chief information officer begin March 16.
