Bemidji State University Earned Bronze-level Designation as a Bicycle Friendly University

Bemidji State University earned a bronze-level designation as a bicycle-friendly university from the League of American Bicyclists. The League of American Bicyclists (LAB) is a membership organization that promotes cycling for fun, fitness and transportation through advocacy and education.

The league represents bicyclists in the movement to create safer roads, stronger communities and a bicycle-friendly America. Through education, advocacy and promotion, they work to celebrate and preserve the freedom cycling brings to members everywhere.

BSU met standards set by LAB to be identified as a leader in support of bicycling. Bicycle-friendly achievements on campus include:

  • Increasing bicycle infrastructure with two permanent bike rack pads installed in collaboration with Residential Life.
  • Providing access to bicycles through both Bucky’s Bikes bike-share program and the Outdoor Program Center’s bike and gear rental program.
  • Hosting a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) seminar and sponsoring two new LCI’s on staff to support safe cycling education efforts.

BSU joins five other universities as a bicycle-friendly campus in Minnesota which, as a state, is ranked second in the League’s Bicycle Friendly America program. The City of Bemidji and two local businesses, Northern Cycle and True North Health Care, are identified as Bicycle Friendly Businesses as well.
