Today is Election Day: Learn Where and How to Vote

Today is Election Day. If you are eligible to vote, Bemidji State University strongly encourages you to exercise your right to cast your ballot and make your voice heard. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

For students who live on campus, polling locations are conveniently located near campus. Resident students will vote at either the Boys and Girls Club on 15th Street just west of Bemidji Avenue or at the American Indian Resource Center. Off-campus students will vote at polling locations determined by your home address. See below to learn how to determine your poll location.

You can only vote from the address where you “reside.” Your residence is the place you consider your home, from which you have no current intent to move. As a college student, if you consider your campus residence as your home, you may vote at that address. But if you consider your parents’ address or some other address as your home, you must vote from that address. Of course, you can only vote from one address in each election.

REGISTERING TO VOTE

If you wish to vote in today’s election and are not yet registered, you can register at your polling location before casting your ballot. You need only to present your student ID to register.

Information about registering on Election Day is available on the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website.

ON-CAMPUS RESIDENTS

If you live in Birch Hall, Linden Hall, Tamarack Hall or in University Heights, you are in Bemidji’s Ward 1 and will vote at the American Indian Resource Center.

If you live in Cedar Apartments, Pine Hall or Oak Hall, you are in Bemidji’s Ward 3 and will vote at the Boys and Girls Club.

OFF-CAMPUS RESIDENTS

Students who live off campus are encouraged to confirm their polling locations. For students who live inside the city limits, ward maps are available on the City of Bemidji’s websiteto help you determine your polling location. In addition, any off-campus student can use the Minnesota Secretary of State online polling place finder that will allow you to look up your polling location by your street address.

WHAT AM I VOTING ON?

In addition to tools allowing you to learn where you go to vote, Minnesota Secretary of State’s website also has information on what you will be voting on, based on your home address.
