As part of Minnesota’s celebration of College Knowledge Month, Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College will join other Minnesota State colleges and universities and waive their application fees during the month of October.
College Knowledge Month is a statewide effort to provide every graduating high school senior — especially underrepresented students — with the opportunity to apply to college without the barrier of an application fee.
“Minnesota State offers powerful educational opportunities to anyone hoping to build a brighter future,” said Devinder Malhotra, chancellor of Minnesota State. “College Knowledge Month is an especially good time to prepare for the application process and apply for admission to any of our colleges and universities — free of charge. These are key first steps on a path to outstanding programs that prepare our students for a career and for lifelong learning.”
During College Knowledge Month, high schools and postsecondary institutions work together to engage, inform and support students as they enter into the college application process. For example, staff from Minnesota State’s colleges and universities attend events at high schools, assist students with completing applications and share information about the college experience.
The culmination of College Knowledge Month is a period in which colleges and universities across the state waive application fees. This year, all Minnesota State colleges and universities are waiving their application fees for the week of October 23-26. Some colleges and universities, including Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College, are waiving their application fees for the entire month of October, while others never charge an application fee. Application fees for qualified low-income students are always waived at all Minnesota State colleges and universities. If prompted for a promo code, applicants should use “CKM2018.”
Minnesota State includes 30 community and technical colleges and seven state universities serving approximately 375,000 students. It is the fourth-largest system of two-year colleges and four-year universities in the United States.
