Bemidji State University and previous football coach Jeff Tesch have reached an agreement that provides for the resignation of Tesch effective May 31.

A joint statement issued by Bemidji State University and Tesch states, “Tesch and the University have agreed that he can best serve BSU and its football program by helping the BSU athletic department this spring to improve its relationship with its alumni and the community. Upon completion of this service, Tesch has agreed that he will retire from his employment at BSU to pursue other career opportunities.”

President Faith Hensrud said the university’s response to the situation has been guided by the best interests of the institution, its students and employees.

BSU continues to strengthen its ability to ensure a respectful, supportive environment and experience for all members of the campus community, she said.

Hensrud expressed appreciation for the focus and dedication of BSU football players and the leadership of interim head football coach Brent Bolte, who took over from Tesch and will continue in that position for the upcoming season. Bolte previously was the team’s co-defensive coordinator. BSU plans to complete a national search for a new permanent head coach in 2018.

The 2016 season was an historic one for BSU football, with an 8-3 record in the regular season and the program’s first post-season victory, a 36-23 win against Washburn University in the Mineral Water Bowl. The team also secured a program-record 17 players on the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Conference list.

“We look forward to another successful season and a bright future for Beaver Football,” Hensrud said.
