NEW HIRES

  • Benjamin Cold has joined the Department of Music as an adjunct instructor, effective Aug. 16.
  • Brent Gitz has joined the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as athletic equipment manager, effective Sept. 26.
  • Thomas Gunther has joined the Department of Music as an adjunct instructor, effective Aug. 16.
  • Phong Nguyen has joined the Department of Music as an adjunct instructor, effective Aug. 16.
  • Sue Selland has joined the 360 Center of Excellence as assistant director, effective Sept. 12.

FACULTY AND STAFF ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Dr. Todd Frauenholtz, professor of mathematics, led a group of 13 students to the Minnesota Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ annual spring conference, April 29-30 in Duluth. The conference allowed BSU students to interact with current mathematics teachers. The trip was supported by BSU grants from the President’s Mini-Grant program and the NASA Space Grant.

  • Dr. Joann Fredrickson, professor of business, has received Quality Matters certification for her course, BUAD 4354 Organizational Behavior. Quality Matters is a faculty-centered peer review process designed to certify the quality of online and blended-delivery courses. It is Fredrickson’s third course to receive Quality Matters certification.
  • Dr. Elizabeth Hagensen (pictured, above), assistant professor of criminal justice, delivered a presentation on punishment, discipline and corrective action at the Minnesota Association of Court Managers conference, held Sept. 29 at the Sanford Center.
  • Dr. Janice Haworth, professor of music, spent six weeks teaching at Changzhi University in Shanxi Province, China this summer. There, she worked with a group of 11 Chinese percussion majors to learn traditional rhythms of Guinea, West Africa. They concluded with a public presentation and concert.

  • Dr. Kelly La Venture, professor of business, has received Quality Matters certification for her course, MBA 6125 Marketing Management. Quality Matters is a faculty-centered peer review process designed to certify the quality of online and blended-delivery courses. It is La Venture’s third course to receive Quality Matters certification.
  • Dr. Donna Palivec, professor emerita of human performance, sport and health, will receive the George Hanson Developmental Adapted Physical Education Award at the fall conference of the Minnesota Society of Health and Physical Educators, Nov. 11-12 in Wayzata. The award recognizes outstanding services and contributions given by an elementary, secondary, higher education or other professional worker in developmental adapted physical education profession as exemplified by George Hanson.
  • Dr. Carla Norris-Raynbird, associate professor of sociology and gender and womens studies, will present “Moving Away from Dichotomy? Trends in Gender Studies Programs in the U.S.” at the International Journal of Arts and Sciences conference in Freiburg, Germany, Nov. 29-Dec. 2.  The paper presents findings from a current study of undergraduate gender studies programs in four-year degree-granting institutions.
