Bemidji State University held its 11th annual Community Appreciation Day on Sept. 1 in conjunction with the football team’s season opener.
The university’s annual event is its way to thank the residents of Bemidji and the surrounding communities for their support of the university. Several thousand visitors were again in attendance to sample free food, enjoy games and activities and to meet BSU students, faculty and staff. BSU student-athletes led a number of interactive games, and dozens of visitors had their picture taken with Bucky the Beaver. BSU’s Jazz Band provided music and entertainment throughout the evening.
Dr. Faith Hensrud enjoyed her first Community Appreciation Day as BSU president before joining Bemidji mayor and BSU alumna Rita Albrecht as guest captains for the football game. The pair watched from the sidelines as the Beavers toppled the Upper Iowa Peacocks, 38-24, behind 395 yards of total offense and three touchdowns from junior quarterback Jordan Hein.
