Nestled in the scenic and serene Minnesota north woods, Bemidji State University is renowned for its sustainability initiatives and for its efforts to educate students who are increasingly aware of their relationship with and impact on the natural environment around them.
This emphasis on environmental awareness combined with the university’s affordable tuition led Great College Deals, a free online resource for students to find up-to-date information and advice on affording a high quality college education, to rank Bemidji State 11th on its list of the 20 best college deals in America for environmentally minded students.
The website researched small campus communities that it determined were proactive in environmental advocacy. It ranked schools based on net price, the presence of diverse environmental study options, the existence of committed “green” initiatives on campus, fieldwork done outside the classroom, financial aid and scholarship opportunities and additional distinctions it felt enhanced student experience.
The 20 colleges to make the list scored the highest among institutions with a net price of $32,000 per year or less and enrolled no more than 7,000 students.
Bemidji State University, located in northern Minnesota’s lake district, occupies a wooded campus along the shore of Lake Bemidji. Enrolling nearly 5,000 students, Bemidji State offers more than 80 undergraduate majors and 11 graduate degrees encompassing arts, sciences and select professional programs. BSU is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system and has a faculty and staff of more than 550.
