Nepalese students at Bemidji State University are raising funds on campus to support victims of this weekend’s earthquake in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Bibek Shakya, a senior in business administration; Ruhi Sharma, a junior in business administration; and Sajil Shrestha, a freshman computer science major, are coordinating this effort. Shakya is graduating this May and has been in Bemidji for 3.5 years; Sharma has been in Bemidji for about 2.5 years. They are among nine Nepalese students currently attending classes at BSU.
Funds can be donated at the International Student Organization, located in the International Program Center office in Deputy 103, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. May 4-7 and 8:30 a.m.-noon on May 8.
In addition to the on-campus donations, the students are advocating for contributions to Oxfam America or the World Food program USA in support of the relief effort.
“Even one dollar counts,” Sharma said.
