Openings remain for summer swimming lessons at Bemidji State University’s Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center.
Session one begins Sept. 17 and runs with five levels through Oct. 10, from 4:30-7:20 p.m. and session two begins Oct. 22 and runs through Nov. 14, from 4:30-7:20 p.m. Lessons take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Cost is $55 per session. Spaces are limited, so interested participants are encouraged to register soon.
Swimming lessons at BSU are taught by trained water safety instructors and will follow the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program.
• Level 1 classes are offered in two sessions: 4:30-5:05 p.m. from Sept. 17-Oct. 10 and 4:30-5:05 p.m. from Oct. 22 – Nov. 14.
• Level 2 classes are offered in two sessions: 5:15-5:50 p.m. from Sept. 17-Oct. 10 and 5:15-5:50 p.m. from Oct. 22-Nov. 14.
• Level 3 classes are offered in two sessions: 6:00-6:35 p.m. from Sept. 17-Oct. 10 and 6:00-6:35 p.m. from Oct. 22-Nov. 14.
• Level 4/5 classes are offered in two sessions: 6:45-7:20 p.m. from Sept. 17-Oct. 10 and 6:45-7:20 p.m. from Oct. 22-Nov. 14.
Skill levels follow criteria set by the American Red Cross. Level 1 is an introduction to water skills designed to help students feel comfortable in the water; Level 2 provides fundamental acquatic skills; Level 3 focuses on stroke development; Level 4 on stroke improvement; and Level 5 on stroke refinement.
