Bemidji State University is partnering with the Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines to offer a college sampler for girls in grades 4-12, July 30-Aug. 1.
The three-day event will feature college preparation presentations, hands-on challenge events and social events. Participants will hear from experts in financial aid, scholarship applications and goal setting. Girls will tour the BSU campus and learn things they can do right away to help them get into the college of their dreams.
Campers also will participate in cultural exchanges with international students, spend time at a robotics workshop and assist with a service learning project. There also will be a campfire with s’mores, a movie night, art projects and scavenger hunts and opportunities to meet college students.
The sampler carries a fee of $85 for Girl Scouts members. Girls who are not members of the scouts are welcome to attend; the non-member fee is $97, which includes a $12 annual registration fee for the Girl Scouts. Scouts may pay for up to $40 of their registration fee with Cookie Dough, earned as a reward for participation in the organization’s cookie sales program. Adults can register for $50.
There is a “bring a friend” discount available; a member of the Girl Scouts who brings a friend to the sampler will earn a $10 discount for both girls.
The course fee includes overnight residence hall accommodations in Bemidji State’s Tamarack Hall, all meals, program supplies, a patch and a custom t-shirt.
Adult supervision will be provided for girls who attend without an adult.
All girls interested in the program are eligible for scholarships; contact the Bemidji Girl Scouts for additional information.
Advance registration is required by July 14 and requires a $10 deposit; the deposit counts toward the sampler’s registration fee.
The college sampler is sponsored by the Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lake and Pines and Bemidji State University.
