Diamond Point Park in Bemidji remains closed to the public while cleanup from the July 2 thunderstorm damage continues, but Bemidji State’s Outdoor Program Center is open for business.
While the OPC has no sailboats on the water and the pontoon boat and dock were severely damaged in the storm, all other OPC activities are continuing as scheduled at alternate locations.
Bicycle and kayak rentals are still available, but have been relocated to Bemidji State’s Gillett Recreation Fitness Center.
Overnight and weekend equipment rentals also are still available. Call the center at 755-2999 for more information and to schedule these rentals.
“We’re trying to repair things as soon as possible,” OPC Director Mark Morrissey said. “Right now, we have a food truck mentality and are trying to accommodate things where we can.”
The OPC’s kayak safety clinics also are continuing as scheduled, with boats launching from alternate locations due to the Diamond Point Park closure. Call the OPC in advance to get details for a specific clinic.
For information on any Outdoor Program Center activity, call the OPC offices at (218) 755-2999, or contact OPC director Mark Morrissey at (218) 755-3900.
