BEMIDJI, Minn. (April 11, 2012) — Students will be dancing among the stars when the Funtastic Dance Follies are staged April 12-14 at Bemidji State University.
The 2012 Funtastic Dance Follies, the 66th production of the campus dance show, will be held in the BSU Gymnasium of the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center on the BSU campus. The follies will begin at 7 p.m. each night during the three-night run, and a 2 p.m. matinee will also be offered on Saturday, April 14.
This year’s show will feature almost 50 dancers in multiple disciplines from across campus, including students, staff, faculty and alumni. This year’s show features more than 25 numbers and will showcase “Community Highlights” from Fusion Dance Studio, First City Dance Studio and Just For Kix Dance.
The follies will hit the road on Monday, April 16, traveling to Swanville, Minn., for a performance at Swanville High School.
The follies are organized and performed by Bemidji State students with Suzy Langhout, an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Physical Education, Health and Sport, serving as director and Jon Langhout performing technical director duties.
The Funtastic Dance Follies began as a modern dance recital for a college physical education course, which performed “The Nutcracker Suite” for Christmas in 1945. Since then, the follies have become an annual tradition. The production is completely student-run, from dancing, choreography, spotlight operation, videotaping and staging of the production.
Tickets to the Funtastic Dance Follies are $5 for the general public; $2 for senior citizens and students. BSU students are admitted free with a valid ID. Advance tickets are on sale at the physical education desk at the Gillett Recreation Center. Tickets also will be available at the door.
