BEMIDJI, Minn. (March 19, 2012) — The Bemidji State University theatre program is presenting its final production of the season, “Commencing” by Jane Shepard.
The play will be in the main stage at the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex on Thursday, March 22 through Saturday, March 24 with 7:30 p.m. performances and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. on March 25. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for students and senior citizens. Bemidji State students are free with ID.
Larisa Berglund of El Paso, Texas directs this one-act play for her capstone project in the theatre major at BSU and senior Ben Eng from Egan, Minn. serves as lighting designer. The actresses for this two-person play are Alana McKeever, a PSEO student at BSU, and Jessica Meierhofer, a sophomore from Lino Lakes, Minn. This is McKeever’s first BSU role, while Meierhofer played Mustardseed in last year’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
The play’s script is a delightful mix of comic wit and serious insights into the social and cultural issues facing young women as they make choices about living independently as adults. This play is co-sponsored by the Women’s Studies/Gender Studies Council and is the BSU Theatre Program contribution to Women’s History Month programming.
