BEMIDJI, Minn. (March 19, 2011) — The Bemidji Trombones ensemble will host their spring concert on March 29 at Bemidji State University.
The concert will be held in Thompson Recital Hall in the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex on the Bemidji State campus at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The Bemidji Trombones will be playing works by Vaclav Nelhybel, Eric Ewazen, Peter Schickele, Richard Wagner, Charles Gounod, James Barnes, and Flor Peeters.
The group will welcome guest artist Russ Zokaites for their concert. Zokaites is a doctoral student at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. He will play a solo aria from Gounod’s opera “Faust” called “Avant de Quitter ces Lieux.” Zokaites arranged the piece for trombone choir and solo trombone.
The group is directed by Sarah Paradis who is the low brass and music theory professor in the music department.
The Bemidji Trombones is an ensemble of 12 trombone players, four students and eight community members, all with varying types of musical backgrounds. The group meets weekly to rehearse and performs one concert each semester.
