BEMIDJI, Minn. (Jan. 17, 2012) — Bemidji State University’s Outdoor Program begins its winter activity schedule with snowboard waxing and cross-country ski lessons.
Wednesday, Jan. 18 – Snowboard Waxing Night
Join the BSU outdoor programming staff for snowboard waxing at the waterfront at Diamond Point Park at 6 p.m. Participants should bring their skis, snowboard, or cross-country gear. Event costs $5. Thursday, Jan. 19 – Cross-country Ski Lesson
This lesson is designed for the beginner who is new to skiing or would like some tips to improve their skills. The lesson will begin in the recreation center lobby to fit equipment and then move to a nearby city ski trail. This area is not hilly or difficult. Lesson starts at 3 p.m. and costs $10. Fee includes rentals, lesson, and transportation. BSU has a large selection of high quality classic touring, skating, and kids skis.
Friday, Jan. 20 & 27 – Buena Vista Ski Shuttle
The shuttle leaves the BSU Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center at 5 p.m. Lift tickets and ski rentals are $9 for student night at Buena Vista. The shuttle from BSU is free.
Wednesday, Feb. 1 – Skills for Traditional Climbing
Skills for Traditional Climbing will be held at the BSU Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center from 6-8 p.m. at the Rockwall. The class will include strategies for outdoor climbing including building your rack, rope systems, improving safety awareness, avoiding problems, and getting down safely. Climbers should be belay certified and have a basic understanding of top roping. A demonstration of traditional leading will be included. Event is free.
