BEMIDJI, Minn. (April 12, 2011) — Bemidji State University’s Choral Chamber Ensemble will present its final concert of the season on Tuesday, April 19.
The 7:30 p.m. show will be held in the Thompson Recital Hall of Bemidji State’s Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex. Admission is free.
The concert will feature student-run ensembles the Women’s Chorus, the Musikanten men’s chorus and The Chamber Singers
The Women’s Chorus is directed by Angela Hesse, a senior in vocal performance from Comfrey, Minn., and Mattea Elhard, a junior in music education from Bemidji. The chorus will perform five pieces, including the Renaissance-era “Fa Una Canzone” and contemporary, upbeat piece “Chili Con Carne.”
Musikanten, directed by Joe Colago, a junior in music education from Browns Valley, Minn., and Nick Dahn, a junior in vocal performance from Park Rapids, Minn., will perform seven pieces in a wide variety of styles. Their selections will include “A Red, Red Rose,” by BSU alum Eric Barnum; “Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl; “Prayer of the Children” by Andrea Klouse; and the humorous “Star Wars (John Williams Is the Man).”
The concert will conclude with seven selections from the BSU Chamber Singers, including Claudio Monteverdi’s “Si Ch’io Vorrei Morire,” Eric Whitacre’s “A Boy and a Girl,” and Norman Luboff’s “When We Were Young.” The BSU Chamber Singers are directed by Tony Tammaro, a senior in vocal performance from LaPorte.
The BSU Chamber Singers serve as the royal court during the University’s annual Madrigal Dinners.
