BEMIDJI, Minn. (April 5, 2011) — Bemidji State University’s Varsity Singers will present their spring concert on Wednesday, April 13.
The concert is open to the public; admission fee is a donation of canned or other non-perishable goods for the Bemidji Food Shelf. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Thompson Recital Hall of Bemidji State’s Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex.
The concert will feature a broad variety of music, including a pair of 18th Century counterpoint pieces, songs in English and German, a medley of songs by The Beatles, contemporary and traditional spirituals and 1940s swing song “Jump, Jive and Wail.”
The show will also feature a duet performance of Stephanie Olson, a freshman in social work from Montrose, Minn., and Rachel Reagan, a junior in elementary education from Blackduck, Minn., singing “Jar of Hearts,” and a solo performance of “One Moment in Time” by Sandra Nye, a freshman in nursing from Bemidji.
The concert will also feature a pictorial show highlighting the Varsity Singers’ concert tour of Minnesota’s Iron Range region during the previous week.
The Varsity Singers
The Varsity Singers, a non-auditioned choral ensemble, includes students from a wide variety of majors and academic pursuits. Primarily a service organization, the choir has been active in sharing its music around the campus and region.
