BEMIDJI, Minn. (March 28, 2011) — Trombones of Bemidji, an ensemble made up of musicians from Bemidji State University and from Bemidji and other surrounding communities, will hold a free concert Thursday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in the Thompson Recital Hall of the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex on the Bemidji State campus.
The concert will feature a group of 12 trombones, including current Bemidji State students Ben Fleming, a senior in music/teacher certification and music/liberal arts from Edina, Minn.; and Steven Radley, a junior in music/liberal arts from Luverne, Minn.
Other members of the choir are Paul Mork, Hyram Price, Jeff Johnson, Cal Broughton, Tom Patnaude, Nancy Sydow, Alyssa Konecne, Les Torgerson, Glenn Seibel, Melissa Stover and Tom Swanson.
The concert will feature a variety of music for large trombone ensemble, as well as a solo by Patnaude. It will feature “Myths and Legends,” a trombone quartet featuring Sydow, Konecne, Radley and Swanson, written by Eric Ewazen; “Sanctuary” for solo trombone and trombone choir, featuring the solo by Patnaude, written by James Kazik; and “Conversation,” a duet for tenor and bass trombone featuring Fleming and Radley, written by Charles Small.
Trombones of Bemidji is sponsored by the Department of Music at Bemidji State University and is conducted by Tom Swanson, adjunct professor of music. The concert is held annually in conjunction with the International Trombone Association’s International Trombone Week, which promotes the trombone through concerts held across the country. International Trombone Week is April 3-9, 2011.
