BEMIDJI, Minn. (February 14, 2011) — Bemidji State University, its women’s studies program and its Women’s Resource Center will host or be involved with a month-long series of activities to celebrate March as Women’s History Month.

The recognition of Women’s History Month kicks off Saturday, Feb. 26, with the induction ceremonies for the Northwest Minnesota Women’s Hall of Fame, and ends Friday, April 1 when a two-week student talkback event ends in Bemidji State’s Hobson Memorial Union.

• Saturday, Feb. 26 — 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Northwest Minnesota Women’s Hall of Fame 2011 induction ceremony; Beaux Arts Ballroom, Bemidji State University’s upper Hobson Memorial Union. A celebration of the induction of Norma Hanson, former board member for the Northwest Minnesota Foundation, into the Northwest Minnesota Women’s Hall of Fame. The event is co-sponsored by the Northwest Minnesota Women’s Fund.

• March 15 — 3-4:30 p.m., “Women Negotiating the Workplace,” a session for students on how to survive and thrive in the workplace. Upper Hobson Memorial Union. Sponsored by the women’s studies program and Bemidji Area Business Women.

• March 18 — 6 p.m., “Whip It” film screening, followed by a question and answer session about roller derby with the Babe City Rollers. Hagg-Sauer 100.

• March 19 — noon-2 p.m., “Derby 101 with the Babe City Rollers,” an open invitation to skate with the Babe City Rollers and learn the basics of roller derby. Memorial Hall 100.

• March 20 — 2-4 p.m., Babe City Rollers roller derby scrimmage. John Glas Fieldhouse.

• March 23 — 3 p.m., “Faculty Forum: Our History Meets the Present,” a discussion on women’s and gender studies across the curriculum. Hagg-Sauer Hall faculty lounge.

• March 25 — 6 p.m., reading and reception for “Dust and Fire,” Bemidji State University’s anthology of creative works by women. American Indian Resource Center.

• March 25 — 7:30 p.m., a flute performance by Linda Chatterton, featuring works by four women composers. Thompson Recital Hall, Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex.

• March 26 — 6:47 p.m., “SisterSong” in concert, Wild Rose Theatre, Bemidji. Tickets available on a sliding scale from free to $20.

• March 28 — 6 p.m., “Amelia” film screening. Hagg-Sauer Hall 100.

• March 29 — 12-1:15 p.m., “Negotiating Salaries for Women,” presented by Margie Giauque, Bemidji State University Career Services. Ozawindib Room, lower Hobson Memorial Union.

• March 21-April 1 — daily student talkback event providing responses to controversial feminist quotes, held in the Viking Room of Bemidji State’s lower Hobson Memorial Union.
