BEMIDJI, Minn. (Nov. 3, 2010) — Bemidji State University presents its annual Fall Festival Choir Concert, showcasing five choral ensembles, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 in the Main Theatre of the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and free to all students.
Performing will be the Varsity Singers, Dammenstimmen, Musikanten, Chamber Singers and Bemidji Choir.
Concert repertoire is varied from sacred music of the renaissance to contemporary selections.
Varsity Singers
The Varsity Singers under the direction of Steve Reznicek, adjunct instructor of music, will sing five pieces including “Psallite,” by Michael Praetorius, “Shut De Do” by Randy Stonehill, “En Ego Compana” by Jacob Handl, “Alleluia for Our Time” by Jay Althouse and “Poor Man Lazrus,” arranged by Jester Hairston.
Dammenstimmen
The women’s chorus, Dammenstimmen, is directed by Angela Hesse, a senior majoring in vocal music education from Comfrey, Minn. Under her direction, the chorus will sing Robert Sieving’s “Ombra Mai Fu” and “Vus Vet Zayn (Yiddish folk song)” arraned by Stephen Hatfield.
Musikanten
Musikanten, a men’s chorus, is formed under the leadership of the choir officers with members selected from the Bemidji Choir. Musikanten is directed by Joe Colago, a junior in vocal music education from Browns Valley, Minn. Under his direction, Musikanten will sing “Warum Bist do so Ferne (Why Are You So Far Away)” by Adolf Marschner, “A Red, Red Rose” by Eric Barnum and “Star Wars (John Williams is the Man),” arranged by Slagowski, Smith and Tim.
Chamber Singers
The Chamber Singers, who serve as the Royal Court for the annual Madrigal Dinners, will sing five pieces, including “I Love, Alas, I Love Thee” by Thomas Morley and “Sweet Philomel” by John Ward.
The Chamber Singers is an auditioned ensemble under the direction of Dr. P. Bradley Logan, professor of choral music.
Bemidji Choir
Under the direction of Logan, the Bemidji Choir will perform eight pieces including “Super Flumina Babylonis” by G.P. da Palestrina and “O Heiland, reiss die Himmel auf (op. 74, No. 2)” by Johannes Brahms. The choir will also perform pieces by a number of 20th-century composers, including “Mirabile Mysterium” by Joseph Testa, “Lo, In the Time Appointed” by Healey Willan, “O Nata Lux” by David Dickau and an arrangement of “This Little Light of Mine” by Moses Hogan.
