BEMIDJI, Minn. (Nov. 3, 2010) — The 32nd Annual Remember When Dances on Friday, Nov. 5, and Saturday, Nov. 6, will take music lovers and dancers back to the Big Band Era in two music-filled evenings presented by Bemidji State University jazz groups.
The dances will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight each night at the Jammers Blue Note Ballroom, north of Bemidji on Bemidji Road NE, also known as Old Highway 71.
Entertaining throughout both evenings will be approximately 20 musicians and vocalists under the direction of Dr. Steve Konecne, professor of instrumental music at Bemidji State.
Music will include actual charts that the big bands played, including pieces by Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and Les Brown. In addition to the Big Band classics, the musicians will perform cha cha, waltz, ballad and Dixieland numbers.
Several vocalists will also perform music from the swing era.
Admission for each evening is $7 for the general public, $5 for senior citizens and for BSU students with a valid ID. Tickets will be available at the door.
Proceeds from the event support the Joe Plumer Jazz Scholarship, tours and the purchase of new music for the groups.
