Touche Gallery hosts “Fabric of Life” exhibit

BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Bemidjij State University social work program is presenting an exhibition entitled “Fabric of Life” in the Touché Gallery of the Hobson Memorial Union on the campus of Bemidji State University from Wednesday, Sept. 17 through Wednesday, Sept. 24.

The exhibit features a variety of student projects from the social work course Human Behavior in the Social Environment. The course helps students view all human systems – including families, groups and communities – from an ecosystems approach. Students engage in an active learning experience, “living” in groups for the term of the course. Students complete three group assignments, and produce an academic paper and a visual fabric collage for each project. The assignments include shaping a group paradigm, creating a model of individual development, and developing a model of family within a community context.

Working in a group, students experience group formation and development. Creating visual representations of social work concepts and models stretches students into unfamiliar territory as they live the experience of paradigmatic shift. The parallel process readies them for working with clients using a variety of narrative forms.

For more information on the Fabric of Life exhibit, please contact Mary Ann Reitmeir, associate professor of social work, at (218) 755-2835; via e-mail at mreitmeir@bemidjistate.edu.

Located in the Upper Hobson Union on the campus of Bemidji State University, the Touché Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The gallery is open at no charge to the public.
