BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University’s Outdoor Program Center (OPC) will offer two events in mid-September, an introductory rock climbing clinic on Monday, Sept. 8 and an introductory sailing clinic on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
• Introduction to climbing
Tailored to beginners, the Sept. 8 rock climbing class offers instruction about knots, climbing equipment and basic techniques. The class will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the rock climbing wall in the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center on the BSU campus and is open to the public.
The OPC will provide harnesses and climbing shoes. There is no recreation center admission charge for this class.
• Sailing Clinic
Designed for beginners, the Sept. 10 sailing clinic will cover basic knots, sailboat rigging and handling. Students will get a chance to sail. The session will last two hours, from 3-5 p.m.
Attendees should bring a swimsuit and towel and prepare to get wet. Each clinic can take up to 12 students, and pre-registration is required. The sessions will begin at the OPC boathouse in Bemidji’s Diamond Point Park.
