Aug. 13 Brown Bag Lunch session on Vital Aging Network

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation will host a Brown Bag Luncheon training session entitled “ALVA: Vital Aging Network” on Wednesday, Aug. 13. The session will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the CRI’s facility at 3801 Bemidji Ave. North in Bemidji, Minn.

The brown bag lunch session format is a half-hour presentation followed by a question and answer period. Attendance is free and open to all who wish to learn more about the topic. Participants are encouraged to bring along a bag lunch.

The ALVA program, formerly known as Advocacy Leadership for Vital Aging, is targeted to adults 45 and older who want to find new opportunities to use their leadership skills. ALVA is targeted to adults 45 and older who want to find new opportunities to use their leadership skills. Meeting one Friday per month from October through May for a total of approximately 56 hours, participants will connect with other sites and experienced leaders in the morning via interactive television and spend the afternoon discussing the information and developing leadership skills and projects. The program will be held at Northwest Technical College beginning in October, and Bemidji will be the only communty to offer the program outside of the Twin Cities.

The featured presenter will be Debbie Drinkard-Grovum, who has more than two decades of experience as a college counselor. She is a certified career development facilitator and retirement coach with master’s degrees from the University of Memphis and Bemidji State University. She did her undergraduate work at the University of South Florida.
