BEMIDJI, Minn. – Students will be dancing among the stars when the Funtastic Dance Follies are staged April 24-26 at Bemidji State University.
The 2008 Funtastic Dance Follies, the 62nd production of the campus dance show, will be held April 24-26 in the BSU Gymnasium of the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center on the BSU campus. The Follies will begin at 7 p.m. each night during the three-night run, and a 2 p.m. matinee will also be offered on Saturday, April 26.
This year’s Follies will feature more than 75 dancers in multiple disciplines from across campus, including students, staff, faculty and alumni. This year’s show features more than 35 numbers, the most in the history of the event. This year’s Follies will also feature a Community Spotlight which will differ for each show and highlight a local dance group.
The Follies are organized and performed by Bemidji State students with Suzy Langhout, an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Physical Education, Health and Sport, serving as director and Jon Langhout performing technical director duties.
The Funtastic Dance Follies began as a modern dance recital for a college physical education course, which performed “The Nutcracker Suite” for Christmas in 1945. Since then, the Follies have become an annual tradition. The production is completely student-run, from dancing, choreography, spotlight operation, videotaping and staging of the production.
Tickets to the Funtastic Dance Follies are $5 for the general public; $2 for senior citizens and students. BSU students are admitted free with a valid ID. Advance tickets are on sale in the Gillett Recreation Center and at the information desk of the Hobson Memorial Union on the BSU campus. Tickets will also be available at the door.
