Jan. 9 Brown Bag Lunch series to focus on digital images

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation will offer a presentation providing tips on photo compression techniques from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at its facility located at 3801 Bemidji Avenue North.

The session format is a half-hour presentation followed by a question and answer period. Attendance is free and open to all who would like to learn more about the topic. Participants are encouraged to bring along a bag lunch.

The featured presenter will be Kris Williams, CRI industrial training coordinator. His presentation entitled “Image Optimization, Why is it Important – What the Heck is That?” will provide guidelines for proper sizing of images for different outputs, such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, photos for print and for the web. He’ll also compare file sizes from images done properly and those done incorrectly and discuss why using a digital camera to add images to files may not always be the best solution.

“Over the years I have had to fix many PowerPoint presentations because the images were simply too large,” said Williams. “It just makes sense to teach people how to make a PowerPoint presentation right the first time.”

Williams has a degree in design technology with an emphasis in multimedia. He has been working at the CRI for more than seven years doing graphic, web and multimedia design.

The session is part of a series of training and informational presentations being offered by the CRI on the second Wednesday of each month. More information and a full schedule can be found at http://www.cri-bsu.org/BrownbagSeries.html.
