BEMIDJI, Minn. — Bemidji State University professors Dr. Mark Christensen, professor of English, and Dr. Dada Maglajlic, professor of social relations and services, will present an Honors Lecture, entitled “Culture, Gender & Identity: The Future Challenges,” on Tuesday, Oct. 23. The lecture, which is free to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. in the Crying Wolf Room of the Hobson Memorial Union on the BSU campus.

This lecture is a final in a series of seven lectures through which two faculty with different cultural backgrounds and identities embarked on a journey of learning and discovery pertaining to culture and intercultural encounters. The lecture will take a look at the future – what the future holds for us from local to the global level. As with the previous two Honors lectures this year, this presentation will also have an emphasis on gender. At 5:30 p.m. prior to the lecture, a video relating to the presentation will be shown.

Dr. Mark Christensen is a professor of English who has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Superior, a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, a doctorate from the University of Minnesota and a master of fine arts from Minnesota State University-Moorhead. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mark has served as the Director of Freshman English, Directory of College Writing, Director of Graduate Studies in English, and Acting Director of College Writing at BSU.

Dr. Dada Maglajlic is a professor of social relations and services who received her undergraduate degree from the University of Zagreb, a master’s degree from Michigan State University, and a doctorate from the University of Belgrade. She was exposed to international collaboration very early in her career, first through research and later as one of the lecturers within the Mediterranean School of Alcohol and Other Dependencies. Her experience as expert-lecturer for different international organizations includes over 15 years of collaborative exchange with 17 European countries.
