“Everything You Wanted to Know About Indians” Added to One-Read program

In May, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community announced plans to donate 10,000 copies of Dr. Anton Treuer’s pivotal work, “Everything You Wanted to Know About Indians But Were Afraid to Ask,” to Minnesota K-12 classrooms as part of its Understand Native Minnesota campaign. The campaign’s One-Read program encouraged educators across the state to “use this essential book of questions and answers for Native and non-Native young readers alike in their classrooms in November to coincide with Native American Heritage Month.” Books were distributed in classroom sets of 32; all 10,000 copies were claimed within 30 minutes, leading to a second distribution of 10,000 copies that also sold out.
