Teaching Health, Physical Education and DAPE for K-12 at Swanville School District in Swanville, MN.

How did your Education at BSU effect your future career?

During my time at Bemidji State, I was Social Media Manager, Vice President and eventually worked my way up to the President of Health, Sport, Exercise Majors Club. HPSH department holds some of the very best professors. My education and time at Bemidji State University is very precious to me. I could never express how thankful I am for HPSH department and the HPSH professors. They have pushed me to become the best version of myself.

What is one aspect of your current position that you find particularly rewarding?

In my current position, I find the connections/friendships I make with my students to be the most rewarding aspect. My door is always open with a welcoming attitude and judgement free zone. They know they can come to me for anything. My professors at Bemidji State chose to create a meaningful connection with me throughout my time at Bemidji State. They chose to invest in me and foster a positive relationship with me. These relationships taught me how to make connections and positive relationships with my future students.

What advice would you give to a current HPSH major at Bemidji State University?

If I could give some advice, it would be to be confident, get involved and start early making connections with classmates and professors. Even if it is small connections at first, those can develop into a bigger friendship. Getting involved in clubs on campus, volunteering and societies can be tricky because you will have to find time in your busy college student schedule. Getting involved early on with all of the above led me to become BSU department of HPSH Outstanding PE Major for 2021-2022, Society of Health and Physical Educators National Majors of the Year Award and more. It led to being able to travel around the U.S. going to Health and Physical Education conferences. Ultimately, led me to receiving a job offer before I graduated from college. I had signed and secured my dream job before I walked the stage which made my busy schedule and long hours in college so worth it.
