Bemidji State’s English department offers a number of teaching assistantship opportunities both for graduate and undergraduate students to get experience in teaching English.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistantships

Undergraduate Teaching Assistantship is a great way for Undergraduate junior and senior students to gain teaching experience right here at BSU. Students who qualify who have been nominated by faculty can serve as Undergraduate teaching assistants.

Student Benefits

Students who participate in am Undergraduate teaching assistantship will enroll in course Directed and Independent Study. This course can be taken multiple times and will be graded as S (Satisfactory) or U (Unsatisfactory) Students will gain relevant teaching experience while working with a professor.

Opportunities for Graduate Assistantships

The Department of English hosts teaching assistantships for graduate students to participate in. The compensation for becoming a graduate assistant are Tuition Waver of 15 credits a year and a $8500 stipend for a year. Teaching GA’s teach one section of College Writing and take courses in teaching, composition and rhetoric. There are non teaching graduate assistantships available in the library and graduate office.
