BEMIDJI, Minn. (March 1, 2012) — Dr. Richard A. Hanson, president of Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College, today announced that Dr. Martin Tadlock has been named Bemidji State’s provost and vice president for academic affairs.

“I’m pleased that Martin has accepted our offer,” Hanson said. “He will bring high levels of energy, commitment and vision to this position.”

The appointment will mark Tadlock’s second stint as an administrator at Bemidji State. From 2001-06, he was BSU’s dean of the College of Professional Studies and School of Graduate Studies. He also was a professor of professional education.

“I am honored to be invited back to Bemidji State University to serve as provost and vice president for academic affairs,” Tadlock said. “(My wife) LaRae and I have many colleagues and friends at BSU and in the Bemidji area who we kept in contact with since leaving in 2006. We are excited to join others who are hard at work creating a world-class university within a city and region engaged in raising the quality of life for all people.”

Tadlock comes to Bemidji State after serving as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Northeastern State University. He also served as the school’s interim president from August through December of 2011.

Tadlock’s career in higher education dates back to 1990 at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he was an assistant professor and chair of the university’s Middle Level Education Team, and also was director of its Center of Education for the Young Adolescent.

He was at Utah State University from 1993-2001, spending eight years as an associate professor in the school’s elementary education department and one year as interim associate dean of its College of Education.

From there, Tadlock moved on to Bemidji State, where he served as dean from 2001-06.

After leaving Bemidji State in 2006, Tadlock was dean of the College of Professional Studies and graduate dean and professor of educational leadership at California State University Monterey Bay, and assistant vice chancellor and professor of curriculum and instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He then moved to Northeastern State in January, 2010.

Tadlock holds bachelor’s degrees in geography and English and a master’s degree in English secondary education, both from Utah State University. He earned his doctorate in educational administration and leadership from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Martin and LaRae Tadlock have four adult children, seven grandchildren and a set of twin grandchildren on the way. Their youngest son, a daughter-in-law, and a niece are graduates of Bemidji State University.

Tadlock will begin his role as Bemidji State’s provost and vice president for academic affairs in June. He will replace Robert Griggs, who has served as Bemidji State’s interim vice president for academic affairs since July of 2011.
